Where’s The Game?

You know how one thing leads to the other, n another thing leads to some other, and then some other thing brings up something which is capable of cultivating another thing holding the same capacity…oh man! This is so confusing. I guess you probably didn’t understand what I’m trying to say. Well, that exactly is the case with IPL. People have completely forgotten about what actually IPL is for or was for...Yes CRICKET!! I mean, where’s the game?

You ask someone about IPL n all they know is that it was an event started for cricket but now involved in politics, scandals, match fixing, betting foot in the mouth stories and industrialists n bankers n what not. How did this happen? The game of cricket, in IPL, is played for about a month…But stories related to IPL stay in news throughout the year. :| How many times have you heard about NatWest or Ashes or Triangular Series or even the world cup being able to stay in news for a year? One full entire year? Never.

See this is it; most people don’t get it, why? why? They keep asking questions while the answer is quite simple u know? This is India. We like to hype up things. Normally, they get hyped up on their own but if they don’t, we take care of it. We add corruption, scandals, backbiting, rumors etc n spice up the issue in concern so that you don’t forget it quick. In fact at times, you ‘never’ forget it. I remember watching the first IPL n telling him how this thing would elevate the role of talent in determining the national team to an extent. But it all goes down the drain, useless. We have players playing for money and fame n late night parties n actresses n late night paparazzi. N where are the players who play for the nation? Ask the players’ n they’ll say, “What do you mean? We’re in the Indian team and we play for it, the nation”. Well, etymologically the term ‘Indian Team Players” does mean that players are from India n for India but dude, where’s your heart in it?

I remember the old times; the time when test matches were cricket, the only mode of cricket was a five day encounter which tested both your physical as well as mental strength. Players were actually put to a test. Look at what we have in IPL, 20 over’s each n then you have some booze and get laid (most probably). Whoa! What kind of a test is that? See IPL according to me is some good restaurant food, exotic in preparation n good to taste every once in a while. But for an orthodox cricket fan, it is all bullshitt. I mean, a game of gentlemen has been converted into a game of carefree and undisciplined teenagers.

Between all the showbiz stuff and players getting a lot to drink and fans getting to see micro mini skirt imported white skin dancers from a distance of 100 meters. I really miss the game. Today’s headlines (regarding Pawar’s ownership issues in IPL) really pissed me off n made me write about IPL. IPl’s gone, been months n still all you read is IP, this then IP that …totally irrelevant. We just lost hands down to a team struggling to maintain its tests n ODI status (i.e. Zimbabwe) and nobody has to talk about it. All we get to know is how much money was involved n who was involved n what was involved n what should’ve been n what is. I mean cmon guys, cut the crap….for god’s sake…FIND THE GAME !!
