Opportunities And India

Two levels come to my mind, when I start to think of opportunities in India. One is my own level, that of a student. While the other, is of the working class. The job of the former is to grab the opportunities created by the latter. It is like a full-fleshed system. Any disturbance in either of the levels will lead to the underdevelopment of the state. Both must work in tandem to each other. If opportunities are more, and grabbers [as I would be calling them] are less, then the value of work will go down. It reflects lack of interest in the field of work. When a population starts to edge away from grabbing opportunities, there is hardly anything that the state can do. However, this never happens. This is because everyone must work to survive. In addition to this, people are always looking for better opportunities. When a person leaves an inferior job for a superior one, there is already a rush to occupy his space. It is like a chain and it starts from the worst job to the best. The chain never ends, as complete satisfaction in human life is impossible to achieve. In addition, a man can never enter a state of complete dissatisfaction too because no matter how bad a job is, it always offers something.

Now, the problem occurs when grabbers are more and opportunities are few. This is a very grave and dangerous situation and the state must act in order to deal with it. If left undealt, or ineffectively dealt, it can lead to protests, fall of the government, internal disturbances in the form of strikes, lockouts or dharnas and even mass revolutions, which might even lead to the fall of the state. Hence, the state must be careful when dealing with the O’n’G ratio. The best examples of such a situation are none but the third world countries. Here, due to underdevelopment, illiteracy, malnutrition, corruption and vast spread social, communal and regional differences, a proper or satisfying O’n’G ratio is hard to achieve.

Now let us get back to the levels I discussed in the first paragraph. Let us take the example of India. In India, the grabbers are doing their job perfectly. I mean, look at the amount of talent India has. Students from all over the country give hundreds of entrance examinations and only the extremely outstanding are selected. Students work as hard as they can and obtain sky rocketing percentages in boards and then sit for entrance exams. However, not every student makes it to a college or course of his/her choice or preference. Why? The reason is lack of opportunities. The other level, which is supposed to be creating opportunities, has completely failed in India. The reasons do not matter, be it corruption or favoritisms. What matters is that as both the levels are interdependent, the failure of one will affect the other and bring down the state. Hence, India fails to progress and develop. Grabbers do their job properly but the other level fails. Result is, G>O , which means the state fails to offer an apt amount of opportunities to the individuals which in turn results in unemployment despite literacy rates shooting up. This leads to immense and widespread humiliation and disgust among individuals, which in turn gives rise to a revolution. I keep the Maoists on the same line as they never got the opportunity to study hence they decided to start a revolution rather than perish. Indian government has disastrously failed to create opportunities and hence must face the axe of internal disturbances in the form of tribal rebels and organized armies. The only way out of this is the creation and cultivation of opportunities. They say we are a better country today. However, the real picture is hardly visible. Soaring Sensex figures and GDPs along with National incomes do not reflect a country’s growth. The actual condition cannot be dealt with by making speculations about the shining tomorrow. I ask, will your future be bright when your present is dead n dark? When you know not of the consequences of poor governance, you know nothing of future. The O’n’G ratio must be taken care of. India needs Indians , and she needs them badly.
